All the photos are of structures that I find interesting, whether its the angles of the walls or placement of a solid objects to form a shape, they all have interesting ideas behind them.

"Shadow as a threshold"

Throughout my design I have focused on lighting and shadow casting as a component for conveying my design idea of complexity and labyrinth. although the spaces are simple prisms the formation the shadows cast is what makes it intriguing and complex. Shadows are repeatedly cast throughout the building in a similar manner and reflection which helps connect the spaces and bring it together, each shadow is heading towards an opening or threshold helping to accentuate it.  'Shadow as a threshold' explores the unknown, and obscure in order to reveal truth. This strongly relates to the work of scientists as that is their mission is to reveal truth and discover the unknown. The shadows cast throughout Jacques-Yves Cousteau's laboratory create a multidirectional collage of colours symbolising underwater exploration and the discovery of the unknown. within the Alfred Nobel laboratory the shadows cast an explosive colour and formation of shapes and images to represent his work, discovery and achievement in his scientific field of investigation. All the shadows cast within the model are designed to represent a threshold, a gateway to discovery.
